Power of Being Mindful

What is all the hype around being “mindful”?

It’s the magic place where real changes happen.

Tuning into what is going on within is, opens our eyes to what we need, and turning our intention towards meeting those needs.

I want you to consider: do you know what your parenting "hot buttons" are?  Those moments that you just can't help but start to feel stressed?

Mine is the moment dinner is over and the bedtime routine begins. Why does that couple of hours seem like such a mountain to climb each night?!  But being honest about how hard this time is for me helped me make a major change that was out of my comfort zone:

I know.  Shocking right?  I would rather listen to baby shark for 7 days straight than admit that I need other people to help me (the "why" behind this is a story for another time).

But without asking for help I would have just remained in the same cranky state every night, my resentment building and me disconnecting from my husband more and more because "he should step up more."

This is so vitally important after kids.  There is an ability to breathe a bit more once you are able to ask for what you need and get help in those areas that weigh you down.

Fun fact we know but choose to ignore: our partner's cannot read our minds, so sometimes that means being explicit about what we need.

So think about those pain points, identify what it is you need (be specific!) and speak up.

I hope you find this helpful.  I really, truly love unpacking these dynamics in parenting.  If you are looking to have a fresh start in your parenting, I would love to talk about how we can work together!

Krista Haller LPC, PMH-C

I have been a licensed professional counselor for over a decade. Although my work has ranged from children to adults, my heart is working with mothers.

For three years I was a home visitor for Early Head Start, providing early intervention services to all kinds of families with varied needs and stressors.

In that time I was lucky enough to be trained in various attachment approaches, including Circle of Security, Trust Based Relational Intervention, and the Gottman Institute’s Bringing Home Baby curriculum. In 2020, I completed my Perinatal Mental Health Certification.
